Hi everyone, welcome to my first weekly post. I am Brevin Walter, and I will be sharing about college life with basketball, the RMAC, and current events in the basketball world.

In this first post, I want to give an introduction and insight beyond the court into my personal life.

I am starting my sixth year of college basketball and second year at CSU Pueblo. The first four years of my college career began at South Dakota Mines and Technology, where I studied Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.

I redshirted the first season, and the COVID pandemic broke out the following year, which gave me an extra year of eligibility that has allowed me to keep playing. Upon graduation, I transferred to CSU Pueblo to continue playing while getting a Master’s in Business Administration this year.

To backtrack, I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, where I lived until college. My parents, Bret and Stacey Walter, worked in the Lutheran School system, and my mom oversaw admissions and human resources at Faith Lutheran Academy, where I went to elementary school.

My father was the high school athletic administrator and basketball coach at Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School. I was fortunate to be a coach’s son and spent much time with him in the gym and around the game, which we have always loved.

My parents played college basketball at an NAIA school in Nebraska called Concordia Seward, now called Concordia Nebraska. They met in college and married in their senior year at 22. I guess I follow in their footsteps as I am 23 and, this summer, was able to get married to Sydney Crites in my final year of college.

My wife played college volleyball at Northeastern Junior College for two years and then played at South Dakota Mines, where we met. She graduated last December as a Chemical Engineer and works for Estes Energetics just west of Pueblo in Penrose.

My younger brother, Rylan,  is entering his second year of college at South Dakota Mines and is a redshirt freshman quarterback on the football team. I am incredibly proud of him as he is currently doing industrial engineering just as I did, but he is showing me up by trying to do it in a year more quickly.

I am thankful for the opportunity Tim and Lynn Simmons gave me to join the Colorado Collegiate Chronicle. Sydney and I were married on June 9, the same day the Simmons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
