“Fitting” Figures’ NFF  “On-Campus Salute”

It is only fitting that Deon Figures’  “On-Campus Salute” by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame will be presented at a Colorado home game against Kansas State on October 12 at Folsom Field.

During Figures’ final season as a Buff in 1992, he set school records by returning ten punts for 167 yards in the CU’s 54-7 win over Kansas State on October 24 in Boulder, including a pair of 37-yard returns. In the first half alone, Figures returned seven Sean Snyder punts for 147 yards.

Interestingly, Snyder, the son of legendary KSU coach Bill Snyder, averaged 52.5 yards per punt that day.  Subtract Figures’ punt return yards, and the Snyder average drops to 38.8 yards per punt.

Why was Snyder tying a KSU record for punts in a game that day?  Figures and his defensive teammates established another school record by allowing KSU only 16 total yards that day, with the Buffs holding the Wildcats to -24 yards rushing and 40 yards passing in 47 offensive plays.
