A couple of weeks have passed with school already, and it feels like football season, which means games will be on constantly. Whether it is college football or the NFL, it feels like you can watch some football on the couch or at a game in person almost all week.
I got the opportunity to watch CSU Pueblo play for the first time at home last Saturday against UT Permian Basin, which was nationally ranked in the top 25. The Pack men’s basketball team was there passing out “Red Out” T-shirts for the game.
CSU Pueblo looked great at the start of the game, with some huge plays, and it was exhilarating to watch them. Unfortunately, there was a rain and lightning delay, so we hurried back to watch the rest of the Colorado-Nebraska football game on TV.
My mom is from Nebraska, and almost all of her side of the family still lives there, so as you would assume, they do bleed red for the Cornhuskers and are die-hard fans. It’s great to see the Colorado-Nebraska rivalry continuing and that both programs are improving and hopefully can return to where they were in the 90s.
I love how America supports football, and throughout the country, people can watch football games at any time, whether it is Friday night lights, small or big-time college football, and then on Sunday and Monday with the NFL.
Playing at the NCAA Division II level at two different schools has been an excellent experience for me to watch solid football uniquely. At South Dakota Mines, O’Harra Stadium is the only one like it in the country. They have typical stadium seating on one side, and around the other half of the bowl, they have three levels to drive your car up and tailgate to watch the game.
At CSU Pueblo, the ThunderBowl is a great stadium with plenty of space to tailgate before the game. It gives a typical college football feel but has unique features like the grass slope kids love to slide down. I love that I can watch big Division 1 football games on TV and cheer for people I know on the field at the D2 level.
After Saturday night, it’s a fantastic feeling to wake up and know that there will be Sunday football all day, along with setting your fantasy football lineup and routing for your players on game day.
Since the beginning of college, I have been in several fantasy football leagues and have had a blast every year with buddies arguing about who is better, trying to make trades, and piling around the TV watching NFL games.
Towards the end of football season, when basketball gets rolling and we start playing games, Sunday has always been the reset day after two games.
One of my favorite things about being a college basketball player is having a group of friends I get to hang out with and watch NFL football while recovering and lounging on the couch all day.
The only bad thing is the lingering feeling of having to get some homework done for class.
But it is getting to be that time of the year again, and I love it!
