Fort Lewis 17, Arizona Christian 12 – The Skyhawks posted three firsts Saturday in their win over Arizona Christian. The victory snapped a 40-game losing streak dating back to October 5, 2019, while the win was the first in Johnny Cox’s coaching career in Durango and the program’s first over Arizona Christian in three tries. Quarterback Stone Walker propelled the Skyhawks to victory with a 10-yard scoring run in the first quarter and a two-year touchdown pass to Christopher Thomas Jr. in the second quarter. Walker finished with 124 yards passing and 57 yards rushing.  Fort Lewis is 1-1 this season and plays its RMAC opener next Saturday at Black Hills State.  READ MORE

Colorado 28, at Colorado State 9 – Sports fans had their eyes on Colorado for the biggest sporting event ever in Fort Collins, as two-way player Travis Hunter had 13 receptions for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. On defense, Travis Hunter recorded an interception. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders was 36-49 for 310 yards and 4 touchdowns and was only sacked once. Hunter now has three straight games with at least 100 yards receiving. CSU made a field goal to go up 3-0 in the first quarter. Sanders then threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter to put Colorado up 14-3. Two interceptions thrown by Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, including one to Hunter, led to two touchdown passes from Sanders to Hunter, putting the Buffaloes up 28-3. Colorado Mines 31, Washburn 28 – Landon Walker tied a program record with four rushing touchdowns to lead the Oredigers to their 22nd-straight regular-season win. Walker ran for 142 yards and added 18 yards receiving. Washburn missed two second-half field goals, including a chance to send the game to overtime. Mines quarterback Evan Foster, playing near his hometown of Olathe, was 24-of-30 for 255 yards and ran for some crucial second-half first downs.  The Orediggers are 2-0 this season and open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next Saturday at Chadron State.  READ MORE

Western Colorado 26, at West Texas A&M 17 – For the second-straight week, Western Colorado quarterback Drew Nash led the Mountaineers in both rushing and passing as the Mountaineers improved their record to 2-0. In the season opener win in Gunnison versus Midwestern State, Nash had 75 rushing (one TD) and 252 yards passing (two TDs). Against West Texas A&M, Nash had 133 yards rushing (three TDs) and 185 yards passing. Braeden Hogan had 101 yards rushing to support Nash. The Mountaineers open RMAC play next Saturday by hosting Adams State in Gunnison.  READ MORE

Abilene Christian 24, at Northern Colorado 22 – Ritse Vaes’ 54-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Wildcats to the victory as Northern Colorado’s fourth-quarter rally fell short. The loss was a gut-punch for Northern Colorado, which is now 0-3 on the season and the owner of a 15-game losing streak dating back to the final game of the 2022 season. The Bears – who led 10-0 and then trailed 21-10 – scored twice in the fourth quarter to regain a 22-21 lead. But UNC missed on both 2-point conversions, and those missing four points kept ACU within a field goal of the win. Darius Stewart ran for 132 of the Bears’ 241 rushing yards, but UNC could only muster 25 yards passing on six completions. UNC plays its final non-Big Sky Conference game next week at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. READ MORE

Central Washington 28, at Colorado Mesa 12 – The Mavericks scored the first nine points to lead with 13:46 left in the second quarter. Central Washington rallied for 28 points to send Colorado Mesa to its first season loss. Mesa had only 205 total yards with 12 first downs. Defensively, Mesa had three players with 10-plus tackles, including last week’s RMAC top defender, Liban Shongolo, with 11 stops and a broke-up pass.  Charlie Smith and Levi Krebs had 14 and 11 total tackles, respectively. Grand Valley State 24, at CSU Pueblo 21 – The ThunderWolves could not recover from a 17-0 half-time deficit as CSU Pueblo lost for the first time this season after opening with a pair of wins to gain a spot in the national rankings with the rankings. Devin Larsen passed for 305 yards and three scores. Larsen has passed for 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns in three games this season. CSU Pueblo hosts Colorado Mesa next Saturday as the Pack for their second RMAC win. READ MORE

at Baylor 31, Air Force 3 – Air Force had a season-high 193 yards rushing in the setback as Cade Harris and John Busha rushed for 71 and 45 yards, respectively. Sophomore defensive back Kyle Chen led the Falcons with seven tackles and a forced and recovered fumble in his first career start. Air Force kept the game close in the first half with a ball-control offense and an opportunistic defense to make it a 6-3 Baylor lead at the half. Aided by three forced turnovers, Air Force held the ball for much of the first half, holding possession for 24:05 in the 30 minutes. The Falcons had seven- and nine-minute drives but could only come away with three points from those drives. Air Force has a bye next week and plays at Wyoming on September 28. READ MORE

at UT-Permian Basin 67, Adams State 14 – UT-Permian Basin had 306 yards rushing and 306 passing in posting a win over Adams State at home in the first meeting between the two schools.  The Lone Star Conference defending champions, the Falcons rebounded from a 40-23 setback in Colorado to CSU Pueblo.  Adams State is now 0-2 this season and opens RMAC play next Saturday at Western Colorado in Gunnison.  READ MORE
