David Peterson from Regis Jesuit High in Colorado secured a save for New York as the Mets advanced to the National League Divisional Series by defeating the home-standing Milwaukee Braves 4-2 on Thursday to win the “wild card” series.
With the Mets scoring four runs in the top of the ninth, Peterson entered the game and gave up a leadoff single before retiring the next two batters on a flyout and a grounder that created a double play.
A 2014 Regis graduate, Peterson played three seasons at Oregon before starting his pro career.
Peterson is the second pitcher with ties to Colorado to earn a save in the MBL playoffs. Beau Brieske from Colorado State Pueblo pitches in two contests for Detroit in the American League “wild card” series and earned a first-game save against the Houston Astros in game one.
In the best-of-five game LDSs on Saturday, Detroit is at Cleveland at 11:08 a.m. (MDT) on TBS with the Mets at Philadephia at 2:08 p.m. on FOX. The NLDS continues on Sunday on FS1 with the ALDS resuming on Monday on TBS. The League Championship Series begins on October 13.
