Heisman Debate

One of the best things about playing college sports is having a group of people you are around all the time with similar interests, passions, and experiences. Most of the time, players create relationships with teammates that turn into lasting friendships. When you spend a lot of time around people, you get to know them well and have fun arguments and debates.

Lately, a few guys on the team have been on the Colorado Buffalo train with the success that they have had. Being from Colorado, it makes sense why they love what is going on with Deion and Shedeur Sanders and the massive push for Travis Hunter to win the Heisman Trophy.

As for me, my father’s side of the family is all from Southern Idaho and has ties to Boise State. My dad has many memories of attending basketball camps there as a kid and coaching an offensive lineman who started at Boise State during his high school basketball career. He only owns a Jay Ajayi #27 Boise State jersey. This leads you to believe my family, and I want Ashton Jeanty to win the Heisman trophy this year.

Ashton Jeanty

A few guys on the team and I enjoy going back and forth about who should win it and why this year. Travis Hunter is a fantastic two-way player playing almost every snap, which you don’t see at the Division 1 level. Jeanty broke big runs and set a rushing yard pace close to Barry Sanders’s record at Oklahoma State in 1988.

Regardless of the debate or who you think should be the Heisman trophy winner this year, there have been a lot of exciting players and plays to watch this year, with quite a bit left to see. I am pleased about the new College football playoff format and seeing more teams get in this year. It gives some smaller schools a legitimate shot at a national championship even when they don’t have the same strength of schedule as SEC schools and the more prominent conferences. I also believe that there is more excitement for playoffs, and it helps to get everything in one format instead of having so many different bowl games out there.

We played at New Mexico Highlands in a non-conference game even though they are a conference opponent and had a rough loss today. The final came out to 85-63, where we shot 0-15 from the 3-point line and a rough percentage from the free-throw line. It is tough to win college basketball games when you shoot it as poorly as we did, but hopefully, that doesn’t happen again this season. Our next match is against Bethany College of Kansas at home on Tuesday.
