CSU spike NCAA bid, net Mountain West crown

The intercollegiate volleyball post-season starts this week.

Colorado State earned an NCAA Division I berth after capturing the Mountain West Conference title last week in Las Vegas, where the Rams posted victories over San Diego State and San Jose State.  BRACKET

The Rams (14-4, 20-10) open play in a quadrant hosted by third-seeded Arizona State with a match against sixth-seeded Texas A&M in Tempe on Friday at 4:30 p.m.  The winner will play ASU or New Hampshire at 6 p.m. on Saturday. READ MORE

Colorado State will compete in its 32nd NCAA tournament, the first since 2019.

Northern Colorado (14-2, 25-7), the Big Sky’s regular-season champion, lost its chance for an NCAA berth by dropping a 3-2 decision at Sacramento State last Friday in the league’s post-season tournament finale.  READ MORE

The Bears will continue to play in the National Invitational Volleyball Championships this weekend, starting with an opening match on Friday against App State at 1 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga. READ MORE

Three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schools – MSU Denver (14-0, 27-2), Colorado Mesa (12-2, 23-5), and Colorado Christian (9-5, 19-10) – have been selected for the NCAA Division II national tournament and start play Friday in the South Central Region at San Angelo, Texas.  Here’s the opening schedule.

  • No. 3 MSU Denver vs. No. 6 Texas Woman’s, 11 a.m.
  • No. 2 West Texas A&M vs. No. 7 UT Tyler, 1:30 p.m.
  • No. 4 Dallas Baptist vs. No. 5 Colorado Mesa, 4:30 p.m.
  • No. 1 Angelo State vs. Colorado Christian, 7 p.m.

Appearing in its 30th all-time in the NCAA Division II Championships, MSU Denver has reached the third round the last three seasons but was eliminated by West Texas A&M each time.  Colorado Mesa is making its fourth straight appearance in the NCAAs and 12th time overall.  Colorado Christian’s only other NCAA berth was in 2012.
