DU women’s hooper Jones tops 1,000-point plateau

Jordan Jones

With a 24-effort in the Pioneers’ 71-56 win over Omaha on Thursday, Jordan Jones of the University of Denver surpassed the 1,000-point in her collegiate career.

With a pair of free throws with 3:43 left in the first half, Jones hit the 1,000-point mark. She added 11 points in the second half as the Pioneers snapped a six-game losing streak for their first Summit League win this season.

A preseason first-team Summit League pick, Jones is averaging 20.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in her third season at DU. In 69 career games, Jones is averaging 14.7 points (1,011) and 6.2 rebounds (425) for the Pioneers.

Emma Smith

Emma Smith, like Jones in her third season at DU, is 12 points short of reaching the 1,000-point plateau. In 79 DU games, Smith scored 988 points for a 12.5 average.

Smith is seeking to become the 16th active women’s player at a Centennial State college or university to score 1,000 or more points in their collegiate career.

The Pioneers play their next two games on the road at St. Thomas in Minnesota on Saturday and at Oral Roberts in Oklahoma on February 1. DU returns home to host Kansas City on February 5 and St. Thomas on February 9.
