The academic honor adds to Hunter’s recognition list for the 2024 season. In December, he became the second defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy in the award’s history and the second from Colorado.
Colorado Mesa, Colorado Mines, and Western Colorado also had players named to the 2024 Academic All-America® football teams selected by College Sports Communicators.


Seventeen student-athletes were repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division II football teams, including special teamer Kash Bradley from Colorado Mesa and punter Blake Doud of Colorado Mines.
Other NCAA Division II honorees from Colorado schools were linebacker Charlie Smith of Colorado Mesa, defensive back Joel Diaz of Colorado Mines, and defensive lineman Ricky Freymond, and offensive lineman Chance Wiening from Western Colorado.
