RMAC hoopers head to Texas for NCAA regionals

Five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schools have qualified for the NCAA Division II men’s and women’s basketball playoffs led by post-season champions Colorado Mines and UC Colorado Springs.

Men’s regular- and post-season winners Colorado Mines are joined by Regis in the South Central Regionals in the metroplex hosted by Dallas Baptist, which starts Saturday with games scheduled Sunday and Tuesday.  The Orediggers struck RMAC post-season gold Saturday in Golden with a 92-64 win over Regis.

Women’s post-season champion UC Colorado Springs will vie for the South Central Regional title with RMAC regular-season winners Colorado Mesa and Adams State.  The Mountain Lions upset Mesa 63-61 on Saturday in Grand Junction for the post-season crown.

Men at Dallas Baptist University, starting Saturday (March 15)
[1] Dallas Baptist (30-4) vs. [8] Regis (18-13), 3 p.m.
[4] Midwestern State (22-7) vs. [5] St. Edward’s (21-12), 5:30 p.m.
[2] Colorado Mines (27-4) vs. [7] West Texas A&M (19-11), 10 a.m.
[3] Lubbock Christian (25-8) vs. [6] St. Mary’s (TX) (19-10), 12:30 p.m.

The second- and third-round games will be played on Sunday and Tuesday at DBU.

Women at Texas Woman’s University, Denton, starting Friday (March 14)
[1] Texas Woman’s (31-1) vs. [8] Adams State (19-11)
[4] Colorado Mesa (25-5) vs. [5] Eastern New Mexico (20-9)
[2] Lubbock Christian (29-4) vs. [7] UC Colorado Springs (19-11)
[3] UT-Tyler (25-4) vs. [6] West Texas A&M (18-12)

The second- and third-round games will be played on Saturday and Monday at TWU.

The eight men’s regional champions will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship games will be conducted at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., on March 25, 27, and 29.

The eight women’s regional champions advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight at the UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa., on March 24, 26, and 28.
