Mines’ Deng & Orser top Centennial State men’s hoop honorees

Forty-one men’s collegiate basketball players from Centennial State earned post-season honors from coaches, players, and media in the Big SkyBig XIIMountain WestRocky Mountain AthleticSouthern Collegiate, and Summit League conferences.

RMAC regular- and post-season champions Colorado Mines netted two top awards. Majok Denk was the player of the year, and Pryor Orser was named the coach of the year.  The seventh-ranked Orediggers posted an 18-2 league record and enter this weekend’s NCAA Division II South Central Regional with a 27-4 mark.

A transfer from Pepperdine, Deng is averaging 15.2 points a game and is shooting 88.5 percent from the free throw line (108 of 122).  He recovered from a late-season slump (87 points in nine games) to compile 45 points in the Orediggers’ RMAC finales last weekend in Golden to net post-season most valuable player honors.

In his 24th season in Golden, Orser’s 2024-2025 Mines team is his 12th Oredigger squad with 20 or more wins in a season.  Entering this weekend, Orser has a 472-231 record with Mines (67.1 percent).  Only Regis University’s Lonnie Porter has won more games (538) at a 4-year school in the Centennial State.
