Led by nationally ranked Western Colorado and CSU Pueblo, four schools in the Centennial State posted wins on Saturday, with Colorado and Northern Colorado joining the Mountaineers and the ThunderWolves in the winner’s circle.
The Western and Pueblo wins were against in-state Centennial state rivals, while Colorado and Northern Colorado won for the second time this season over Wyoming and Houston Christian.

Drew Nash In compiling 478 yards of total offense in its 45-6 win over Adams State (0-1 RMAC, 0-3 overall) in Alamosa, No. 5 Western State (1-0, 3-0) got a 263-yard and five-TD pass effort from quarterback Drew Nash, with Isiah Jones rushing for 110 yards. Reggie Retzlaff No. 12 CSU Pueblo withstood a late push by Colorado Mesa, posting a 31-24 win in Grand Junction on Saturday to tie Chadron State for the lead in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSUP READ MORE / CMU READ MORE / BOX SCORE Jackson Smith’s 34-yard field goal with 7:55 left in the game gave CSU Pueblo (2-0 RMAC, 3-1) a 31-17 lead, but the Mavericks (0-1, 1-2) responded on their next drive to cut the Pack’s margin to seven as Liu Aumavae hooked up by Bryson Brown on a 69-yard pass-run play with 5:49 remaining in the contest. The Mavericks had two more chances to score, but Aumavae was intercepted twice by CSU Pueblo’s Jaylen Shaw (at the Mesa 42-yard line with 2:27 remaining) and Dre’Monti Jackson (in the ThunderWolves endzone with
five seconds left in the game). CSU Pueblo quarterback Roman Fuller passed for 249 yards and four scores, but suffered his first interception of the season on a potential fifth TD pass in the third quarter by the Mavs’ Gibson Leafgreen. Fuller has now passed for 1,081 yards in four games this season with 11 TD passes. Reggie Retzlaff caught nine passes for 100 yards and three scores (9, 21, 9 yards) to give him 30 career touchdown receptions in his two-plus seasons with the ThunderWolves. Despite missing last week’s game at Central Missouri, Retzlaff leads the Pack with 19 receptions for 254 yards and six TDs. -

Kaidon Salter Kaidon Salter had 390 yards on offense with 304 passing and 86 rushing in leading Colorado (0-1 Big XII, 2-2) to a 37-20 win over Wyoming in Boulder. Salter passed for two of his three touchdowns in the second quarter as the Buffs led 21-3 at halftime. His third TD pass gave CU a 28-3 lead with 13:55 left in the third quarter, and his rushing score on a 35-yard run was the game’s final points with less than two minutes remaining in the contest. Hank Gibbs Hank Gibbs had a one-yard touchdown run in overtime, lifting Northern Colorado (0-0 Big Sky, 2-2) to a 26-23 win over host Houston Christian in Space City. The Bears, who evened their record for the first time since 2022, had 437 yards of offense and held the ball for nearly 39 minutes. Jackson Brousseau The Colorado State (0-0 Mountain West, 1-2) offense struggled through three periods before the Rams made a change at quarterback to have an opportunity to win the game versus invading UTSA. But after tying the game at 17 with 29 seconds left, the Rams took a point off the scoreboard to go for the win. However, Tahj Bullock’s two-point conversion pass to Lloyd Avant was caught out of bounds, and the Roadrunners left Fort Collins with a 17-16 win. Jackson Brousseau entered the game with less than 12 minutes remaining and guided CSU on two scoring drives of 67 and 75 yards to give the Rams the opportunity to tie or win the game. Landon Walker Chadron State scored 17 points in both the first and fourth quarters en route to a 34-28 win at Colorado Mines on Saturday, in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for the Orediggers. READ MORE / BOX SCORE The Orediggers (0-1 RMAC, 2-1 overall) rallied from the 17-0 deficit to take a 20-17 lead with 14:24 left in the game on a four-yard run by Landon Walker, who finished the game with 112 yards rushing. After Chadron State (2-0, 2-2) regained the lead at 31-20 on a pair of touchdown passes, Mines took advantage of an Eagle fumble and returned it 85 yards by Sean Gilbert to cut the visitors’ lead to 31-28 with 4:18 left in the contest. An Oredigger interception led to a Chadron State field goal to close out the score as Mines was limited to only 25 yards in its last three drives of the game.
- In Durango, Black Hills State scored 14 points in the third quarter to secure a 25-19 win over host Fort Lewis (0-1, 1-2) in the Skyhawks’ season-opening RMAC contest.
