Fort Lewis (12-5, 10-0) continues to be the most successful basketball team in the state as the Skyhawks are riding a seven-game winning streak, which is tied for the seventh longest in the nation. Fort Lewis is now one of six teams in Division II with an undefeated conference record. The Skyhawks rank eighth in the country in steals per game (11.2) behind the strength of Stewart Erhart and Cassius Carmichael. Erhart’s 3.47 steals per game is the highest figure in Division I or II, while Carmichael is averaging 2.79 steals per game, eighth in the nation in Division II, and this week had 11 steals in a game which is the most in Division I or II this season. Carmichael was rewarded by being named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Behind 21st-ranked Black Hills State is a three-way tie in the RMAC for third place with CSU Pueblo, Colorado Mesa and Colorado Mines all with a 7-3 league record. This week Colorado Mesa (11-7, 7-3) hosts CSU Pueblo (13-5, 7-3) in a key matchup. Mesa is 6-1 at home this season and has won nine straight against the Thunderwolves. Mesa’s Ty Allred is coming off his fourth 20-point, 10-rebound game of the season and he ranks second in rebounding (8.5 rebounds per game) and fourth in scoring (17.9 points per game).

CSU Pueblo is much improved this season but after facing Mesa and then a road game at Westminster University in Utah will face a daunting task of hosting Black Hills State. Lately the Thunderwolves have been utilizing the three-point shot, making 11.5 per game and shooting over 44% over the last six games. Freshman Bryce Riehl, who hails from Colorado Springs, made seven three-pointers last game, by far the most in the RMAC this season. Over the last six games he is shooting an incredible 70% (21 of 30) from deep.

Colorado State (12-8, 3-6) has a pair of big games this week and both are on the road. First up is a contest against Mountain West Conference leader San Diego State, where the Rams will try to win consecutive games in the series for the first time since 2017. Then Colorado State travels north for the Border War ay Wyoming. CSU is second in Division I in three-point percentage (41.3%) and their top four scorers all connect on at least 42% for the season. Josh Pascarelli has 196 three-point field goals made in his career, which is the 12th most among all active juniors in Division I.
