CSU shooting woe stymie Rams NIT bid

Colorado State could not overcome its three-point shooting woes as the Rams dropped a 69-64 decision to Saint Joseph’s in the first round of the men’s National Invitational Tournament played late Wednesday in Fort Collins.  READ MORE

The Rams (21-13) entered the game shooting over 39 percent from behind the arc and averaging nearly 10 three-pointers per game.  On Wednesday, CSU was 7 for 30 for three-point attempts for 23.3 percent against Saint Joseph’s (23-11).  BOX SCORE

CSU led only once in the game at 2-0 and was trailing 56-45 with seven minutes left in the game.  The Rams then scored 14 of the next 17 points in the contest to tie the score at 59-59 with 67 seconds remaining.

Saint Joseph’s (23-11) regained control with a 66-59 edge with 26 seconds left.  CSU scored five points in the net 11 seconds to cut the lead to 66-64 with 15 seconds left and got the ball back on a Hawk turnover.

However, Rashaan Mbemba missed a layup on the ensuing in-bound pass, and Saint Joseph’s survived to advance to a game in Northern California this weekend against Cal.
