The Colorado Mesa men’s lacrosse team (8-2) is currently ranked 14th in the latest NCAA Division II polls. CMU has won seven of the eight RMAC regular season championships (Westminster won 2019) and six of the eight RMAC tournaments (Westminster won in both 2019 and 2021). Now midway through conference play, the Mavericks are looking to expand their four-game winning streak and bring momentum into the postseason. Earlier this week Mesa logged a 13-12 overtime win against the aforementioned Westminster team, and those two schools will face each other again on April 9. Junior Reed Roughton, who is from Highlands Ranch, was the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week.

The state of Colorado has a ranked team in Division I as well, as the University of Denver (4-5) is currently 20th. The Pioneers were previously ranked 13th but dropped not just for losing their last four matches, but for losing to then number 14 Georgetown by a lopsided 17-5 score in Denver. All five of DU’s losses this season have been to ranked teams, with four of the losses coming against teams that were eighth or better at the time of the game. Denver closes out the regular season with four games, none against ranked teams, before taking part in the Big East Tournament beginning on April 30. Junior Marek Tzagournis is leading the Pioneers in goals (12) on just 22 shots and is tied for the team lead in points with 22. Prior to the Georgetown game he had scored at least two points in every contest this season.
