An assistant coach the past four seasons at Fairfield, Johnson will make his first appearance on his return to the Mile High City on Thursday at a media session at 1 p.m. at DU’s Hamilton Gymnasium.
Johnson, who replaces Doshia Woods (2020-2026, 57-116), takes over a program that won 11 of 30 games in DU’s final season in The Summit League, where the school was 6-12 in league play. The Pioneers will compete in the West Coast Conference next season.
When he first arrived on the DU campus on April 30, 2008, Johnson also took over the Pioneer women’s basketball program from Pam Tanner. In four seasons at DU, Johnson went 72-52 in his four seasons, finishing each of the four campaigns above .500, the program’s longest streak in the NCAA Division I era.
When Johnson replaced Tanner, DU had finished the 2007-2008 season with an 11-19 record, the same as this season’s Pioneer team. In his first campaign with DU, Johnson posted a 16-15 record, the first of four-straight winning seasons.
Here is the current slate of four-year women’s basketball coaches in Colorado with Johnson starting his second stint at DU.
