The final two championships on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule are being contested this weekend, with baseball playoffs in their second day of competition and the softballers completing the first of three days of play.
In Grand Junction at the Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark, Colorado Mines (19-32), CSU Pueblo (27-25), and MSU Denver (38-14) posted baseball wins on Thursday in the double-elimination tournament that concludes Saturday. READ MORE
In Lakewood for the softball quarterfinals, UCCS (33-21) posted a 6-5 win over Colorado Mesa (28-25), while MSU Denver (35-19) scored a 9-1 victory over Colorado Mines (27-31) in the single elimination playoff at All-Star Park. READ MORE
Thursday’s biggest surprise was fourth-seeded CSU Pueblo’s 9-8 win in 10 innings over second-ranked and top-seeded Colorado Mesa (46-5). During the regular-season, the Mavericks won four-straight games in Pueblo by a combined score of 47-11. READ MORE
Friday’s championship schedule has the softball semi-finals with top-seeded and third-ranked Colorado Christian (52-4) hosting fifth-seeded UCCS at 12 p.m., followed by third-seeded MSU Denver challenging second-seeded CSU Pueblo (38-16) at 2:30 p.m. Friday’s winners meet Saturday at 12 p.m.
Two of Saturday’s three baseball games are set, with Colorado Mesa playing UCCS (37-18-1) at 11 a.m., followed by Colorado Mines versus CSU Pueblo at 3 p.m. MSU Denver, the only unbeaten team in the playoffs, meets the winner of the Mesa-UCCS game at 7 p.m.
