Colorado’s historic lacrosse season ended in a double overtime match at Martin Stadium in Evanston, Ill., as top-seeded Northwestern posted a 13-12 win over the Buffs in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championships.
Maddie Shoup’s goal for CU (16-4) with just four seconds remaining in regulation forced overtime, and Northwestern’s Noel Cumberland was successful on a free-position shot 1:43 into the second overtime period to send the Wildcats (17-3) to the NCAA “final four”. CU WEB ARTICLE / BOX SCORE
Despite the setback, Colorado advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time in program history after defeating Jacksonville and Denver in the opening two rounds. The Buffs finished the season with a program-record nine-game winning streak prior to Thursday’s loss. Colorado’s 16 wins matched a school record set back in 2017.
