Mines, Mesa, Pueblo & Adams post top 25 Learfield rankings

The 2025-2026 Learfield Cup rankings for NCAA Division II schools were released Wednesday with Colorado Mines, Colorado Mesa, Colorado State Pueblo, and Adams State finishing in the top 25.

Mines led the way as the Orediggers teams placed seventh with 698.5 Learfield points, followed by Mesa (11th, 632.5), CSU Pueblo (19th, 529.75), and Adams State (25th, 512.50).

A total of 251 schools were ranked with UC Colorado Springs (51st, 354.50), Western Colorado (66th, 306.5), Western Colorado (66th, 306.50), Colorado Christian (90th, 241.25), MSU Denver (153rd, 125.00), Fort Lewis (160th, 118.50), and Regis (228th, 25th).

For the 18th time in the Learfield Directors’ Cup history, Grand Valley State University finished first with 1,089.75 total points in 20 total sports, including three of the four sports that must be counted.

Among NCAA Division II conferences ranked in the top 25, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference finished second behind the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and its five schools – Pittsburg State (eighth), Washburn (ninth), Central Missouri (14th), Nebraska Kearney (18th), and Northwest Missouri State (23rd).

Overall, 15 sports are counted in the final DII standings, four of which must be women’s volleyball and basketball and men’s basketball and baseball. The next-highest sports scores (up to 11) for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in the NCAA Championships.
