ABOUT THE HOWLER

The Howler has been produced and published by BFishInc (Longmont, CO) since 2021.

• The Howler is funded and edited by Tim Simmons (Class of 1969).
• The purpose of The Howler is to share athletic scores, schedules, highlights, and general Pack updates.

Tim Simmons is an independent sports media consultant, events coordinator, and the current Athletics Historian and Hall of Fame Coordinator for Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo).

• Nicknamed “Blowfish,” he is a highly respected figure in Colorado sports journalism and collegiate media operations.
• A Pueblo, Colorado native, he is the son of legendary Hall of Fame coach Harry “The Chief” Simmons.
• He graduated in 1969 from Southern Colorado State College (now CSU Pueblo) with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and earned a master’s degree in 1971 from the University of Iowa.
• He was honored as the school’s first Mass Communications Distinguished Alumnus in 1972.
• Following a decade at Coors Brewing Company (1981-1992), he has extensive experience with organizations like ESPN Events and the FIVB World Tour.
• As a former sports information director for CSU Pueblo (July 1, 1971-March 31, 1974), he received the President’s Award for Distinguished Alumni in 2023
• Along with his wife Lynn, he has managed BFishInc since 1992 and contributes to local sports media outlets, including the Colorado Collegiate Chronicle.
• With his sister Martha, he established the 80for80 Fund to support the CSU Pueblo men’s basketball team and has created multiple scholarships to honor local mentors and his parents.

Harry “The Chief” Simmons’ Coaching Legacy

• Harry “The Chief” Simmons is arguably the foundational architect of the entire Colorado State University Pueblo athletics program.
• Serving as both the Athletic Director and head basketball coach for 35 years (1945-1980), he guided the university’s sports identity through multiple institutional transitions.
• Over his 40-season coaching career, he compiled a 701-348 (.668) record, including a dominant 603-326 mark at CSU Pueblo.
• He led the program to 11 national tournament appearances, culminating in a 1961 NJCAA National Championship with Pueblo Junior College. This was the first national basketball title won by any college in the state of Colorado.
• Following the school’s transition to a four-year institution, his 1971-1972 squad became the first Colorado school to win an NCAA Division II Regional Championship, advancing all the way to the Elite Eight
• Demonstrating early versatility within the athletic department, he even stepped in as head football coach from 1952 to 1955.
• In the spring following the national basketball championships, Simmons coached the baseball team to the NJCAA national tournament in Grand Junction, where PJC upset the top-seeded team in the opening round.
• Due to his immense regional footprint, he was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (1982), the National Association of Collegiate Directors Hall of Fame (1986), and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame (2026).
• The CSU Pueblo Athletics Hall of Fame honors the legendary figures, teams, and moments that shaped ThunderWolves (“Pack”) history.
• The Ultimate Father-Son Milestone: Tim Simmons was announced as an inductee into the Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
• He joins his father, Harry, making them one of the most prominent multi-generational families enshrined in university history.
