Mile High City hosts Colorado Premier Challenge featuring top NCAA D2 women’s volleyball teams

Led by co-host and defending national champion MSU Denver, 10 of the nation’s top NCAA Division II women’s volleyball teams will be in action this weekend at two Mile High City sites for the Colorado Premier Challenge.  TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

Co-hosted along with Regis University, the 12-school Colorado Premier Challenge features three-team pool play on Friday followed by bracket matches on Saturday at both host institutions.  TOURNAMENT PROGRAM / NCAA.COM WEB ARTICLE

With 10 of the 12 schools receiving votes in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II polls, the top teams are No. 2 Wayne State of Nebraska (4-0), No. 3 and national runner-up Concordia-St. Paul of Minnesota (2-1), No. 5 Ferris State of Michigan (4-0), and No. 7 MSU Denver (3-1).

Other ranked teams in the field are No. 14 Angelo State of Texas (4-0), co No. 25s. Central Missouri (2-2) and West Texas A&M (2-2), No. 35 Bentley of Massachusetts(1-3), No. 36 Anderson of South Carolina (4-0), and No. 37 Palm Beach Atlantic of Florida (3-1). Lewis of Illinois (4-0) joins Regis (1-3) as the only unranked teams in the Colorado Premier Challenge.

Here is Friday’s schedule at MSU Denver.

  • 10 a.m. – #3 Concordia-St. Paul vs. Lewis (Pool 1); #14 Angelo State vs. #35 Bentley (Pool 4)
  • 2 p.m. – #37 Palm Beach Atlantic vs. Lewis (Pool 1); #7 MSU Denver vs. #35 Bentley (Pool 4)
  • 6 p.m. – #3 Concordia-St. Paul vs. #37 Palm Beach Atlantic (Pool 1); #7 MSU Denver vs. #14 Angelo State (Pool 4)

Here is Friday’s schedule at Regis.

  • 10 a.m. – #5 Ferris State vs. #36 Anderson (Pool 2); #2 Wayne State vs. #T25 Central Missouri (Pool 3)
  • 2 p.m. – #T25 West Texas vs. #36 Anderson (Pool 2); Regis vs. #T25 Central Missouri (Pool 3)
  • 6 p.m. – #5 Ferris State vs. #T25 West Texas (Pool 2); Regis vs. #2 Wayne State (Pool 3)

On Saturday, MSU will host the Gold bracket at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m., and 7 p.m., and Regis will host the Silver and Bronze bracket schools at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m., and 7 p.m.   With the Gold bracket featuring the top team from each pool, group finishes will be determined by the following:

  • Matches won/lost
  • Games won percentage (games won divided by total games played)
  • Points won percentage (points won divided by total points scored)
  • Coin flip

NOTE: The silver and bronze bracket play can be altered if two schools from the same conference (MSUD & Regis RMAC; Angelo State & West Texas A&M Lone Star) are impacted. The Gold bracket will not be switched as it is the championship pairings. The location of each bracket on Saturday may change based on both host schools’ finishes on Friday. Notice will be given Friday night.
