CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY: Legend & The Classical Academy Crowned Girls Flag Football champs

The future of Colorado high school athletics was on full display Saturday at Trailblazer Stadium, where the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) staged its girls’ flag football state championship showdowns.  NOTE: Most of the information provided came from Colorado Preps.

Class 5A Title Game: Legend 7, Arvada West 0

In a defensive masterclass that defied expectations, the No. 2-seeded Legend Titans (17-2) out-dueled the No. 4-seeded Arvada West Wildcats (17-2) to capture the 5A state championship—culminating a four-year program build that moved from Great 8 newcomer to the state’s ultimate peak.

Legend’s lone score came in the first quarter when quarterback Addyson Law connected with Ella Smith on a crisp post route for a touchdown. From there, the Titans’ defense took over under head coach Darren Pitzner, pitching a historic shutout against one of the classification’s most explosive offenses.

Arin Dunn, Karl Benson, Reagan Steuber and Jenn Roberts-Uhlig, Associate Commissioner

Legend recorded four interceptions on the afternoon, including two from Noelle Ho, a pick from Tatum Burke, and the game-sealing interception by senior Reagan Steuber. Trusting countless hours of film study, Steuber jumped an Arvada West route in the game’s waning moments to halt a potential game-winning drive. For her clutch plays and defensive leadership, Steuber earned Canvas Credit Union MVP honors.

Despite stellar arm talent from Arvada West quarterback Emerson Drake and valiant defensive efforts, including an interception by Jocelyn Ayriss, the Wildcats were repeatedly turned away inside the red zone and couldn’t crack Legend’s relentless defensive shell.

Class 4A Title Game: The Classical Academy 34, Vista Ridge 18

The Class 4A championship delivered offensive fireworks as top-seeded The Classical Academy (18-0) put the finishing touches on an undefeated season, defeating No. 3 Vista Ridge (16-2) 34-18 to claim their second consecutive state crown.

Senior quarterback Kelsey Peterson—affectionately known as the “momma bear” of the Titans—put on a legendary performance for first-year head coach Carly Hoff. Peterson threw five scoring strikes and ran for another touchdown, while also securing a crucial fourth-quarter interception.

Arin Dunn, Reagan Harter and Karl Benson

The undisputed target of the afternoon was Canvas Credit Union MVP Reagan Harter, who caught four touchdown passes for TCA. Harter showcased her game-breaking speed and toughness, highlighted by a dazzling 74-yard catch-and-run in the first half and a contested 38-yard fade in the final frame to put the game out of reach.

Vista Ridge fought hard behind quarterback Jocelynn Kalkman, who threw three touchdown passes—all to standout receiver Kayla Dempsey—while Arayah Johnson added an interception for the Wolves. However, TCA’s heart-over-hype ethos and tactical execution carried them to the finish line, securing another title before the offseason.
