With “big” wins last Saturday, Colorado, Colorado Mines, CSU Pueblo, and Western Colorado improved their standings in the national polls. The four schools had a combined winning margin of 38 points.
CU is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 Conference play. Mines and Western are undefeated at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition. CSU Pueblo is 4-1 overall, leading the RMAC with a 3-0 mark.
The Buff’s 27-point win (48-21) at Central Florida, Colorado, received a vote in the ASSOCIATED PRESS poll (40th) for the first time and garnered nine votes in the American Football Coaches Association rankings (37th).
Colorado is idle this week and returns to action on October 12 when 20th-ranked Kansas State plays in Boulder at Folsom Field.
In the AFCA’s NCAA Division II rankings, Colorado Mines is fourth, Colorado Western 13th, and CSU Pueblo tied for 18th with Emporia State. CSUP’s only setback was to N0. 2 Grand Valley State 24-21 on September 14 at the ThunderBowl in Pueblo.
In the D2Football.com poll, Mines is seventh, Western Colorado is 12th, and CSU Pueblo is 19th.
Mines scored a 28-point victory (52-24) over visiting Black Hils State. On the road, Colorado Western was 41 points better than New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas (53-12), and CSU Pueblo was 56 points ahead of Adams State in Alamosa (66-10).
Colorado Mines plays at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction this Saturday, Western Colorado hosts Fort Lewis on Family Weekend in Gunnison, and CSUP entertains New Mexico Highlands in Pueblo for homecoming. Here is the complete schedule for Colorado-based football schools this weekend.
