After CSU Pueblo product Beau Brieske was credited with a “hold” for Detroit Tigers in the American League Divisional Series on Wednesday, Regis Jesuit prepster David Peterson secured a “win” for the New York Mets in the National League Divisional Series.
While Brieske and the Tigers need one more win in Detroit on Thursday to advance to the American League Championship Series with either the New York Yankees or Kansas City Royals, Peterson’s win was in the series-clinching game against the Philadelphia Phillies in New York.

In his fifth season with the Mets, Peterson pitched 2 and 1/3 innings after replacing Reed Garrett with two outs in the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam to give the Mets the lead at 4-1, and Peterson finished the next two innings to be credited with his first post-season win.
Playing in his second of two MLB post-seasons, Peterson has pitched in relief in three games in the playoffs (6 1/3 innings) with an NL “wild card” clinching “save” against the Milwaukee Brewers.
With the win, Peterson and his Mets will play either the Los Angeles Dodgers and/or San Diego Padres in the National League Championship Series starting Sunday.

Brieske was the third of six pitches for the Tigers as Detroit posted its second straight shutout win over the Guardians. Brieske pitched two innings and struck out three of the six batters in the game.
Like Peterson, all of Brieske’s post-season appearances have been in relief. In four games, Brieske has two saves, a hold, and six straight in 5 1/3 innings.
In his third season with the Tigers, after being picked in the 27th round by Detroit in the 2019 MLB draft, Brieske pitched a season at CSU Pueblo in 2019 and posted a 7-5 record for the ThunderWolves.
