Players from Colorado Mines (Will Ramsey and Blake Doud), Northern Colorado (Cam Chapa), and Western Colorado (Drew Nash) were named Players-of-the-Week in their respective conferences for their play this past week.

Chapa, a defensive back from Aurora, Colo., had seven tackles and the game-sealing interception with 30 seconds left in the Bears ‘ 21-17 win at No. 20 Weber State last Saturday.  The victory snapped UNC’s 18-game losing streak, the longest in the Football Championship Subdivision.  Chapa is the Bears’ first Big Sky POW since November 14, 2022.

While Chapa sealed a victory for UNC, Ramsey set the tone in Mines’ 45-20 win against South Dakota Mines in Golden with a pick-six on the game’s second play.  Ramsey, a junior defensive back, had four tackles in the outing as Orediggers held the Hardrockers to 287 offensive yards.

Doud averaged 51.2 yards on his four punts to keep South Dakota Mines bottled up in the Orediggers victory.  A junior from Parker, Colo., Doud’s four punts included a 68-yarder and a 54-yarder, with the former downed at the three-yard line. He also saw a 44-yard punt downed at the two-yard line. South Dakota Mines’ average starting field position was its 16-yard line after his punts.

Nash used a career-best 346-yard passing performance to claim Western Colorado’s first weekly award of 2024 as he helped the Mountaineers to a 35-14 victory against Black Hills State.  With Western Colorado’s league-leading rushing attack slowed, Nash picked up the slack, completing 34-of-45 passes and posting a 162.1 pass efficiency rating in the game. His three touchdown tosses went for 12, 4, and a season-long 65 yards.
