Cherry Creek reclaims Class 5A grid title

On Saturday, Cherry Creek captured the Class 5A Colorado High School Activities Association football title by defeating Legend 13-10 in the third of three championship games at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins.

Elijah Cromwell received the Most Outstanding Player award as selected by the Colorado Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

With trailing 10-0 at halftime, Cromwell rushed for touchdowns of two and nine yards to give Creek the lead.  His final score came with 39 seconds left in the third quarter.  For the game, Cromwell rushed 17 times for 100 yards to pace the Creek attack.

After Cromwell’s score, Legend only had two opportunities to tie or win the game in the fourth quarter but could only advance the ball to the Creek 42-yard line in the closing four minutes.

With the win, Cherry Creek has won five of the last seven Class 5A titles.  For coach Dave Logan, it was his 12 championship.
