RMAC titles on tap for Saturday in GJ, Golden

With the top two seeds vying for the men’s title, UC Colorado Springs seeks to complete an “amazing” run in the women’s bracket as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball championship games will be played on Saturday in Golden and Grand Junction.

Ninth-ranked and top-seeded Colorado Mines (26-4) hosts second-seeded Regis (18-12) in the men’s final on Saturday in Golden after the Orediggers eliminated fourth-seeded Black Hills State 77-64 on Friday, while the Rangers ousted third-seeded Fort Lewis 69-62.

In the women’s RMAC semi-finals in Grand Junction, top-seeded Colorado Mesa (25-4) posted a 68-53 win over fourth-seeded Black Hills State before sixth-seeded UCCS (18-11) downed second-seed Western Colorado 69-55.  Earlier this week, UCCS ousted third-seeded Adams State 63-60 in Alamosa

In the 7 p.m. men’s finale at Lockridge Arena, the two teams will meet for the third time this season. Regis posted a 94-91 win at home on January 25, with the Orediggers routing the Rangers 83-52 in Golden on February 20.

The Mesa-UCCS game tips at 6 p.m. at Brownson Arena.  The Mountain Lions own a victory in Grand Junction with a 65-56 victory over the Mavericks on December 5. Mesa avenged the setback by winning at UCCS 62-58 on February 1.

Mines will seek its third men’s title since 1993 after topping the playoffs in 2012 and 2017. Regis has one championship to its credit in 2018. While UCCS won one women’s crown in 2017, Mesa has captured five post-season titles in 2002, 2013, 2014, 2019, and 2020.
