Clifford, Deng headline CCC’s All-Colorado men’s hoop team

Colorado Mines’ Majok Deng and Colorado State’s Nique Clifford headline the men’s basketball Colorado Collegiate Chronicle All-Colorado honor roll for the 2024-2025 season.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s player of the year and National Association of Basketball Coaches All-American, Deng led Mines to the NCAA Division II “Sweet 16” and a 29-5 overall record in winning both regular and postseason titles.

A senior transfer from Pepperdine averaged 14.5 points per game while shooting 38 percent from behind the arc.  In two seasons in Golden, Deng scored 1,072 points for the Orediggers (16.0 points per game).

An all-Mountain West pick and the top listed player in the NABC’s all district team, Clifford led all men’s 4-year school scorers and rebounders in Colorado by averaging 18.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.  His 15 double-doubles ranked 14th nationally.

In leading the Rams to a 26-10 record, a Mountain West post-season title, and an NCAA Division I berth, Clifford also finished second among Centennial State performers in assists (4.4) and minutes played (35.4).  He shot 49.6 percent from the field, 37.7 percent from behind the arc, and 77.7 percent at the free-throw line.

 

Men’s Colorado Collegiate 4- & 2-year Basketball Statistics (through April 1)

 

Northern Colorado’s Jaron Rillie and Isaiah Hawthorne were first team CCC All-Colorado performers, along with two University of Colorado players – William Becker from Colorado Springs and Julian Hammond III from Boulder.

Earning second team berths were Colorado Mines’ Riley Schroeder, Northern Colorado’s Langston Reynolds, Regis’ Chase Mayo Harmon, Fort Lewis’ Biko Johnson, MSU Denver’s Brayden Carter, Ethan Taylor from Air Force and Jude Tapia of Adams State.

Clifford also was named to the CCC’s all-defensive squad and was the top Colorado prep product on the Colorado Collegiate Chronicle honor roll.

Joining Clifford (Colorado Springs the Vanguard School) on the top performing Colorado prep products for the 2024-2025 season were Becker (Smoky Hill), Carter (Mullen), Reynolds (Denver East/Colorado Prep), and Hammond III (Cherry Creek) along with MSU Denver’s Caleb McGill (Grandview), Colorado College’s Asher Nofziger (Cherry Creek), Regis’ Kobe Sanders (Chaparral), and Devin Philio (Aurora Rangeview).

On the all-defensive team with Clifford were Becker, Carter, Zach Bloch from Northern Colorado. and Stewart Erhart of Fort Lewis.

Denver’s Sebastian Akins has been selected to the Colorado Collegiate Chronicle’s all-freshman and all-bench teams.  A freshman guard from Concord, N. C., Akins averaged 12.7 points a game and shot 76 percent from the free-throw line as he came off the bench in 22 of his 32 games at DU this season.

Others on the all-frosh honor roll were Erhart, Will Mortimore of Colorado Mesa, MSU Denver’s Logan Threatt, Air Force’s Kyle Marshall, and Colorado’s Sebastian Rancik.  On the all-bench squad with Akins were Jalen Brown from Regis, Markus PastorcicStraun of Colorado Mines, Yaak Yaak of Colorado Mesa, Trevor Baskin of Colorado, and Quinn Denker from Northern Colorado.
