Billed as the “90s Clash” as the two schools tied for the 1990 collegiate championship, where the writers favored the Buffs and the coaches the Rambling Wreck, CU could not match the efforts of Tech quarterback Haynes King, who accounted for 299 total yards and four touchdowns in the season opener for both schools. BOX SCORE

After Colorado tied the score at 20-20 with 8:25 left in the contest on a seven-yard run by Kaidon Salter to cap a 15-play, 75-yard drive, King scored on a 45-yard run with 67 seconds left in the game to end a five-play, 61-yard drive.
With two timeouts available, the Buffs produced only 25 yards in three plays and were forced to throw two “hail Marys” by Salter that were overthrown on the first attempt and batted down on the second toss.
With only a handful of starters from last season’s 9-4 squad that played in the Alamo Bowl, Colorado returns to action next week at Folsom Field to host Delaware in a 1:30 p.m. contest.
