Wellington wins CHSAA’s 2A title

Tanner Gray (center) was presented the award after the game by Dan DeRose (left) of the Colorado Chapter of the National Football Foundation & Hall of Fame and Seth Holliday from Canvas Credit Union.

Wellington posted a 35-0 win over Elizabeth to capture the 2A title and its first Colorado High School Athletic Association football championship since 1953.

Wellington’s Tanner Gray, who scored on a 57-yard run and tossed a touchdown pass, was named the most outstanding player in the game.

  • 1953 – C (6-man) – Wellington def. Carbondale, 40-38
  • 1953 – B – Wellington def. Meeker, 19-0
  • 1952 – C (6-man) – Wellington def. Buena Vista, 28-12
  • 1952 – B – Wellington def. Meeker, 24-9
