CSU will be out to avenge last season’s 72-55 setback in Boulder to the Buffs during the Rams’ championship season with a Mountain West Conference post-season title and an NCAA tournament berth. The game tips off at 3 p.m. and will air on the CBS Sports Network.
Led by Colorado’s 7-0 record, three of the Centennial State’s five men’s NCAA I basketball schools have compiled winning records heading into the second month of regular-season play.
The Buffs captured the Acrisure Holiday Classic title on Friday in Palm Desert, Calif. At the same time, Colorado State (6-2) won the consolation title at the Battle 4 Atlantis with an 83-68 victory over South Florida.
Northern Colorado (6-1) won two of three games in its in-season tournament in Portland, and the Bears face Denver (2-5) and the Buffs in December. The Bears defeated Air Force (3-5) at the Academy.
Colorado Mines (2-6) opens defense of its RMAC title as the Orediggers host Adams State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and New Mexico Highlands at 3 p.m. on Saturday. After losing its first five games this season (all on the road), Mines has recovered to win two of its last three contests.
The Orediggers, who advanced to the “Sweet 16” in the NCAA Division II Championships, were picked to finish second in the RMAC preseason poll behind Black Hills State. Adams State and Highlands were listed in 9th and 11th place, respectively.
The top returnees for Mines are Markus Pastporcic-Straun and Alex Romack as the Orediggers posted an 18-2 record in the RMAC and finished 29-5 overall. Mines defeated Regis 92-64 in the league post-season finale in Golden.
