The first two days of the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships in Emporia, Kansas, has been special for Colorado School of Mines.   The women are tied with the second most points while the men sit at fourth.  The only other school with a more balanced team is Pittsburg State, which sits atop the women’s leaderboard and is second in the men’s division.  But 27 events are scheduled on Saturday, May 23 (RESULTS HERE) and the team standings will change considerably.  Pittsburg State has won the last four men’s national championships and in 2024 also won the women’s.

Mines sophomore Emily LaMena became the school’s fourth ever national champion in women’s track & field, and the only one to do so in outdoor competition besides Hannah Davey in 2004 as she won the 3,000m steeplechase.  Freshman teammate Sierra Wall placed second in the 400m race and became the first true freshman Oredigger, man or woman, to be an All-American in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.  READ MORE
