Fifth-ranked Colorado State University Pueblo, Colorado School of Mines, and eighth-ranked Western Colorado registered Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wins Saturday, while Northern Colorado and Air Force snared their first conference wins this season.

With Colorado and Colorado State playing 183 miles apart in central Texas, the Buffs and Rams lost two games that kicked off at the same time and aired on ESPN.

Navi Bruzon accounted for 334 yards and four touchdowns, leading CSU Pueblo (5-0, 3-0 RMAC) to a 35-23 win over Colorado Mesa (2-3, 1-2) in the second of three games this season in the U.S. Highway 50 Cup.  Last week in Grand Junction, Mesa lost 31-17 to Western Colorado.

Since losing 55-14 to Colorado Mines on September 23, 2023, at the ThunderBowl, CSU Pueblo has now won 28 straight RMAC games.  The Pack has won its last nine games with Mesa and leads the 4-year school series 20-6-1.

CSU Pueblo coach Phil Vigil is a Mesa grad and led the Mavericks to a 26-3 win over the Pack in Grand Junction in 2008.  Vigil is now 4-0 against Mesa as the Pueblo coach, and his three-plus-season record is now 33-7 overall and 28-2 in the RMAC.

In a game in which CSU Pueblo scored all its points in a 26-minute span across the second and third quarters, Bruzon completed 16 of 22 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns.  He rushed for 47 yards with an 11-yard scoring run.

Cole Hansen led the Mavericks by completing eight of 15 passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns.  He also rushed for 55 yards as he only quarterbacked Mesa for the final two quarters of the game.

Preston Kyle kicked three field goals (37, 30, and 18), and Joseph Capra passed for 196 yards, highlighted by a 34-yard scoring toss to Akset Richard to lead Colorado Mines (2-2-1, 2-1 RMAC) to a 16-12 win at Chadron State.

Trailing 3-0 in the opening period, Capra and Richard, who caught five passes for 136 yards, combined to give Mines a 7-3 lead with 2:39 left in the first quarter. Max Barnes rushed for 107 yards on 21 carries for the Orediggers.

In losing its 33rd-straight game, Adams State (0-5, 0-3 RMAC) led briefly at 8-7 in the first quarter against eighth-ranked Western Colorado (5-0, 3-0), but the Mountaineers bounced quickly on a 100-yard kickoff return by D. J. Allen to regain the lead for good at 14-8 with 5:19 left in the opening period.

In a 70-21 win over Adams State in the Colorado Classic, Western State’s Cole Kerr started his first game for the Mountaineers and passed for 203 yards and three touchdowns.  Lamonte James rushed for 144 yards and two scores as the hosts scored at least two six-pointers in each period.

Northern Colorado (2-3, 1-1 Big Sky Conference) shut out Utah Tech in the second half and won its second straight game, 37-13, over the St. George outfit playing its first season in the league.

Quarterback Brayten Silbor paced the Bear attack with 182 total yards and scored on a 1-yard run in the third period to give UNC a 27-13 lead.  Landon Richardson converted on three of four field goals to help the Bear cause.

It took two overtimes, but Air Force (2-1, 1-1 Mountain West) used a seven-yard run from Rocco Conti to secure a 26-33 win over Nevada in Reno on Saturday’s last game for Colorado-based schools.  Conti finished the game with a career-high 77 yards on 11 carries.

Liam Szarka also rushed for a career-high 171 yards and two scores and completed five of nine passes for 92 yards and a touchdown to lead the Falcon attack, which rushed for 363 yards and held a more than 12-minute advantage in ball possession in regulation.

In a high-scoring, explosive non-conference matchup at the Alamodome in San Antonio, UTSA (3-1) posted a 59-45 win over Colorado State (2-2) in the first game of the day Saturday.

• Both teams put on a clinic moving the ball, combining for nearly 1,042 yards.
• UTSA racked up 542 total yards (239 rushing, 303 passing), while Colorado State countered with 500 yards (156 rushing, 344 passing).
• Colorado State quarterback Ksaan Farrar threw for 344 yards and 2 touchdowns, spreading the ball to targets like Terrence Smith (102 receiving yards, 1 TD) and Reginald Vick (93 yards).
• Despite keeping pace through the air and converting heavily on fourth downs (5-of-6), the Rams could not overcome UTSA’s steady offensive pressure. Ram running back Mel Brown accounted for 248 yards on 21 touches (132 yards on KO returns, 90 rushing, and 26 receiving).

In the Big XII Conference opener for both schools, Baylor (3-1) defeated Colorado (2-2, 0-1 Big XII) 23-13 in Waco.  The Buffs outgained the hosts 363-337, but the Bears controlled the action in the final 12 minutes, breaking a 17-17 tie to take the lead for good with 9:02 left.

• In relieving CU starting quarterback JuJu Lewis at the start of the second half, Isaac Wilson passed for 156 yards and a score, and wide receiver JoJo Williams had a big game with 11 catches for 127 yards and a touchdown.

Despite outgaining Black Hills State 405-372, Fort Lewis dropped a 28-20 decision to the Yellowjackets in Spearfish, S. D. The Skyhawks trailed 28-10 with 13:35 left in the game, but the visitors scored on a 78-yard pass from Sam Jones to Solomon Lattimer and a 23-yard field goal by Lucas Schmitten.

Jones finished the game by completing 30-of-40 for 339 yards and two touchdowns, but was sacked five times by the Yellowjackets.  Lattimer caught seven passes for 139 yards and one touchdown.
