CSU Pueblo, Western Colorado, Air Force & Colorado Mines improve winning streaks

Nationally ranked and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason favorites Colorado State Pueblo and Western Colorado stayed on course for a regular-season collision in the Steel City with decisive Saturday wins.

Air Force, Colorado School of Mines and Northern Colorado also posted conference victories on Saturday as the Centennial State collegiate football schools resumed action after eight teams had a bye the previous weekend.

After fourth-ranked Colorado State Pueblo (7-0, 5-0) won its 30th straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game with a 77-17 win over New Mexico Highlands (3-4, 1-5) at the ThunderBowl, sixth-ranked Western Colorado (7-0, 5-0) scored a 55-0 victory over Fort Lewis (2-4, 1-4) in Gunnison at the Mountaineer Bowl, and kicker JT Miller tied a Centennial State single-game record with six field goals.

CSU Pueblo quarterback Nazi Bruzon threw for a season-high six touchdowns, completing 18 of 26 passes for 283 yards.  He has now passed for 2,081 yards and 24 scoring tosses this season.  RECAP

A junior transfer, Miller tied Adams State’s Rocky Paulson and Colorado State’s Caylen Camper for the most field goals in a game by a Centennial State collegiate kicker.  Miller’s six field goals against the Skyhawks are the most by any individual this season in the NCAA’s four divisions and tie an NCAA Division II record.  WESTERN COLORADO RECAP / FORT LEWIS RECAP

In one of Saturday’s final games, Colorado  (2-4, 0-3) made it exciting until the end, but the Buffs could not hold onto a 17-13 lead after three quarters and dropped a 27-17 Big XII Conference decision to 11th-ranked Utah (6-0, 3-0) in Boulder.
