Colorado Christian & Westminster RMAC “top golf”

Colorado Christian’s men’s and women’s teams are atop the leaderboard after the first round on Sunday at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Golf Championships at Boulder Creek course in Boulder City, Nev.

While defending RMAC and NCAA Division II champion Colorado Christian has a one-stroke lead over Colorado Mines in the men’s competition, the school’s women’s squad is tied at the top of the leaderboard with Westminster of Utah.

Individually, Ashley Lam of Westminster shot a four-under par 68 on the 6,055-yard course to grab a two-stroke lead over Lisa Ekberg of Colorado State Pueblo.

On the men’s side, Colorado Christian’s Sangha Park posted a 67 on the par-72, 7,246-yard layout to sport a one-shot edge over Xavier De La Rosa of Westminster, Sungyeop Cho of Colorado Christian, Ronald Kildall III of Fort Lewis, and Baptiste Laborde of Colorado Mesa.

The men have the opening tee-off times at 11:30 a.m. Mountain time with Colorado Christian players in the same grouping as Colorado Mesa and CSU Pueblo.  Westminster and South Dakota Mines start at 12:15 p.m., followed by Colorado Mines and Fort Lewis at 12:24 p.m.

For Monday’s women’s rounds, Colorado Christian will be paired with CSU Pueblo, and Colorado Mesa with noon Mountain time teeoffs. Westminster, Fort Lewis, and MSU Denver will start at 12:45 p.m. South Dakota Mines, Black Hills State, and Chadron State will launch at 1:30 p.m.

The RMAC Golf Championships conclude Tuesday with the top teams earning automatic berths into the NCAA Division II regionals.  The men’s regionals are May 8-10 at the Victoria Club in Riverside, Calif.  The men’s finals are May 19-23 at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

The women’s NCAA Division II regional will take place from May 5 to 7 at the La Paloma Course at Tascosa in Amarillo, Texas.  The Boulder Creek course will host the women’s national championships from May 13 to 17.
