Colorado School of Mines’ Flynn Schiele is the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Player of the Week for last week’s performance.
In the Orediggers 52-24 win over Black Hills State in Golden, Schiele caught 13 of the 16 passes he was targeted on, averaging 22.8 yards per reception, and had three touchdown receptions.
The 297 receiving yards is the third-most in the history of collegiate football in the state of Colorado, with only Patrick Walker of Northern Colorado (315 yards on 10 receptions with two touchdowns) versus North Dakota on October 29, 2011, and Mike Collodi of Mines (310, 10, 3) versus Westminster on October 3, 1970, being better.
Schiele is the 18th player from Mines to be honored as a NFF Colorado Chapter POW. Oredigger gridders have now been recognized 36 times since the start of the POW program in 2003. Current teammate Max McLeod was an NFFCC recipient twice, including last November 28.
Other nominees for the games played on Saturday (September 28) were Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Colorado Mesa’s Jason Thome, CSU Pueblo’s Howard Russell V, and Western Colorado’s Royce Pao.
The recipients of the first four POW certificates were Devin Larsen (games played August 29 & 31) and Reggie Retzlaff (games played September 5 & 7) of Colorado State Pueblo, and Travis Hunter (games played September 14 & 21).
