In leading the Maverick defense, Stuhr and teammates limited Mines’ passing attack to 159 yards and 108 yards on the ground.  On Monday, Stuhr was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s defensive player of the week.

Stuhr, who prepped at Dakota Ridge in the Denver-area, is the 13th player from Mesa to receive the Colorado Chapter honor and the first since last season when offensive lineman Cooper Mumford in September 2023. He is also the first linebacker to be honored by the chapter with POW recognition since Carson Wells of Colorado was a recipient in October 2021. Overall, linebackers have won the NFF honor 22 times since the start of the program in 2003.

Other players nominated this week were wide receiver Tory Horton of Colorado State, wide receiver Reece Robinson from Colorado State-Pueblo, and running back Bryce Vaz from Colorado Western.

The recipients of the first five POW certificates were quarterback Devin Larsen (games played August 29 & 31) and wide receiver Reggie Retzlaff (September 5 & 7) of Colorado State Pueblo, wide receiver/cornerback  Travis Hunter (September 14 & September 21) of Colorado, and wide receiver Flynn Schiele of Colorado Mines (September 28).

Hunter and Robert Felberg of Colorado Mesa are the only two “slash” players to win the honor. Felberg was a quarterback and wide receiver recipient for the Mavericks in a 2010 game against Western Colorado.  Hunter is the first to play on both offense and defense.

The POW program for the Colorado Chapter of the NFF  & CHOF was started in 2003.  Following the player facts and figures, there is information on the NFFCC POWs by school, division, and position.
